If you are bored of a plain drink then make a twist! Make a butterfly pea drink for summer by following the steps below.
Butterfly pea or clitoria ternatea is a blue colored flower. It is well known for its benefits such as hair growth. Now, if you make it as a drink then it does not have much taste like other flowers unless you add honey or lemon juice.
First, gather all the ingredients. You will need,
5-6 butterfly peas
1 tablespoon of honey or as desired
a cup of hot water
lime juice (optional)
Next, add the butterfly peas into the cup of hot water and mash it with a spoon. Stir for about 3 minutes until the water gets a nice indigo color. Get the flowers out if you think it is ready.
Then add 1 tablespoon of honey. Stir again so that the drink and honey is blended together. Add lime juice if you like the drink to be sweet and sour. Adding the lime juice is totally optional and you can always adjust the recipe according to your taste. Adding the lime juice will make the color change to purple, because butterfly pea contains anthocyanin. Anthocyanin is a pigment found in butterfly pea. The color changes when the PH changes. Lime contains low PH so that is the reason why the color changes into purple or pink depending on the amount of lime juice you add.
Now pour the drink into your glass and add ice cubes. Drink it quickly otherwise the ice cubes will melt and the drink will not be tasty any more. Decorate your drink with a butterfly pea to garnish, add a straw, and enjoy your delicious drink in the summer heat!
